Katy Perry to sizzle at IPL opening ceremony in Chennai

Pop sensation Katy Perry will perform at the opening of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in southern Chennai on April 3, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has said.
"The verve and originality of her (Perry''s) music matches that of the competition and we look forward to an inspired performance from her," The News quoted IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla, as saying in a statement.

The BCCI, which owns and organises the annual tournament, promised an "unforgettable" start to the fifth edition of the league, with Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan and leading actress Priyanka Chopra also set to appear.
Twenty-seven-year-old Perry made waves in India two years ago for her extravagant Hindu wedding to British comic Brand in Jaipur.
The couple split in December last year.
Perry is best known for hit songs, "Teenage Dream," California Gurls," and "I Kissed a Girl."
Her debut album "One of the Boys" garnered two Grammy nominations, while her second single "Teenage Dream" was nominated for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
The album was picked as International Album of the Year at the Juno Awards of 2011.

These stories came days after what has been reported as very public PDA with Gordon. The two was seen showing public affection, sharing kisses and holding hands while out on an errand in the Atlanta area.


Reports are that they are also living together in Houston's Atlanta house.
TMZ has reported that Houston adopted Gordon about 10 years after his parents could no longer take care of him. He has been living in the singer's Atlanta home ever since.


"Yes, they are engaged, but the family is trying to coax her away from it," a source reportedly told People.

Soldier who 'shot nine sleeping Afghan children in gun rampage that left 16 dead' returns to U.S. to face trial

The U.S. soldier held in connection to a shooting rampage that claimed the lives of 16 Afghans - including nine children - has been identified as Staff Sgt Robert Bales.
The 38-year-old soldier, who arrived at a detention centre in Kansas on Friday evening, had been in Afghanistan since December, despite telling his family he did not want to return on what would be his fourth tour of duty.

Bales, an 11-year veteran, is said to have been plagued by various stresses stemming from his deployment, his marriage, and the fact that he had seen a friend's leg blown off the day before the massacre.
The father of two from Ohio was reported to have been drunk at the time of the alleged rampage, according to some sources.
He was also suffering from a traumatic brain injury, but this was not considered enough to disbar him from active service.

A military newsletter from September 2011 featured Bales participating in a training exercise designed to improve relations between the U.S. military and Afghan civilians.
He is recorded asking a village elder: 'How's the security affecting your family?'
And after a 2007 battle in Iraq, he told a local newspaper: 'I've never been more proud to be a part of this unit than that day for the simple fact that we discriminated between the bad guys and the noncombatants and then afterward we ended up helping the people that three or four hours before were trying to kill us.


'I think that's the real difference between being an American as opposed to being a bad guy, someone who puts his family in harm's way like that.'

Bales was stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, near Tacoma, Washington, where his family - including his children, thought to be aged three and four - remains under protection.
He was flown to an American base in Kuwait earlier this week, but on Friday evening was transferred to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas for detention ahead of a future court martial.
The Army said he was placed in his own cell, not a normal four-person bay. He will get time out of his cell for hygiene and recreational purposes and religious support.


Bales has not yet been charged over his alleged offences, nor has he been officially named by the military.

His attorney, John Henry Browne, has said he plans to highlight Bales's suspected post-traumatic stress disorder, exacerbated by his witnessing an explosion the day before the alleged attack.
'We have been informed that at this small base that he was at, somebody was gravely injured the day before the alleged incident - gravely injured, and that affected all of the soldiers,' Mr Bales said.
He also said that the soldier had previously been injured twice - once sustaining a concussion and, on another occasion, requiring surgery that removed part of his foot - and he and his family thought he was done fighting and might become a military recruiter instead.

Mr Browne added: 'He wasn't thrilled about going on another deployment. He was told he wasn't going back, and then he was told he was going.'

'They were totally shocked,' he said. 'He's never said anything antagonistic about Muslims. He's in general very mild-mannered.'
He said the family said they were unaware of any drinking problem, and described the couple's marriage as 'fabulous'.

Neighbours of the soldier in Lake Tapps, Washington, were surprised to hear of the allegations against Bales.
Kassie Holland, who lives next door, said she would often see Bales playing with his two kids and the family together at the modern split-level home.
'My reaction is that I'm shocked,' she said. 'I can't believe it was him. There were no signs. It's really sad. I don't want to believe that he did it.
'He always had a good attitude about being in the service. He was never really angry about it. When I heard him talk, he said, it seemed like, yeah, that's my job. That's what I do. He never expressed a lot of emotion toward it.'

Military officials say the soldier received sniper training and is assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Infantry Regiment of the 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, of the 2nd Infantry Division, which is based at Lewis-McChord.
Beau Britt, who lives across the street, said: 'For something like that to be right across the street from us is just amazing.
'I kind of sympathise for him, being gone, being sent over there four times. I can understand he's probably quite wracked mentally, so I just hope that things are justified in court. I hope it goes OK.'




Bales and his wife bought the Lake Tapps home in 2005, according to records. The home was placed on the market Monday, the day after the attack, and was listed at $229,000. Overflowing boxes were piled on the front porch, and a U.S. flag leaned against the siding.
Bales - who signed up to the military after 9/11 and served three tours of Iraq - had no prior events in his Army dossier indicating misbehaviour, according to the lawyer.
The soldier could face the death penalty if convicted of the crime, according to Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta.

Bales had completed 20 hours of anger-management counseling following a 2002 arrest at a Tacoma hotel for investigation of assault. Browne said the case involved a woman other than Bales' wife, whom he married in 2005.
Records also associated with Bales show that in 2009 he had a hit-and-run charge dismissed in municipal court in Sumner.
Mr Browne's resumé includes defending notorious serial killer Ted Bundy and Colton Harris-Moore, the 'Barefoot Bandit'. Bales specifically asked that he should represent him.
A high-ranking U.S. official told The New York Times on Thursday: 'When it all comes out, it will be a combination of stress, alcohol and domestic issues - he just snapped'.
Nine of the 16 killed by the lone U.S. Army staff sergeant were children, and three were women.
Villagers have described him stalking from house to house in the middle of the night, opening fire on sleeping families and then burning some of the dead bodies.
Mr Browne said he knew little of the facts of the shooting, but disputed reports that a combination of alcohol, stress and domestic issues caused him to snap.

The soldier is suspected of going on a shooting rampage in villages near his base in southern Afghanistan early Sunday, killing nine children and seven other civilians and then burning some of their bodies.
Some villagers told officials they heard shooting from different directions, but many others said they only saw a single soldier. NATO insists the soldier acted alone.


Fort Lewis-McChord is about 45 miles south of Seattle and home to about 100,000 military and civilian personnel.
A former soldier out of Fort Lewis shot and injured a Salt Lake City police officer in 2010, and on January 1, a 24-year-old Iraq War veteran shot and killed a Mount Rainier National Park ranger.

Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan had a baby girl on November 16, 2011. Four months later, she finally has a name - Aaradhya Bachchan.

Madonna got slammed by the Malawi government on Tuesday.The singer, who adopted two children from the poor African country, recently announced that she wants to build 10 schools there.

But Malawi officials are now sounding off on the Material Girl, who last year scrapped plans for a girls’ school near the capital of Lilongwe.Malawi’s Ministry of Education spokeswoman Lindiwe Chide said the government is “fed up” with Madonna, who allegedly never informed the government before she abandoned the academy.


“Now she decides to announce that she plans to build 10 schools without getting authority from us again,” said Chide, adding, “We now feel like this is all about propping up her global image and not in our interest.”


Chide griped, “She has no mandate to decide where she wants to build a school because she doesn’t know our needs and where we want new schools… she first needed to consult us, get permission from us before doing anything.”

Jermaine Jones will be kicked off “American Idol” on Wednesday’s show, following the revelation that the singer hid his criminal past from producers.

Cops Investigating Lindsay Lohan Hit-and-Run

Lindsay Lohan struck someone while driving away from a club early this morning, and then fled the scene, but it looks like no charges will be filed.
The 25-year-old actress was in her new Porsche when she left the Sayers Club in Hollywood just after midnight when the scene became chaotic.
She was driving out of the parking lot when she was blocked by Fun and Entertainment photographers and bystanders around the nearby Hookah Lounge.

Lindsay made contact with the manager of the Hookah Lounge with her car and then peeled out, prompting a police investigation ... we thought.
Cops were called, came to the scene and interviewed people inside the Hookah Lounge - including the manager who was struck - and then left.

It turns out LiLo may have been the one who called police to protect herself from the paparazzi, and that's why cops showed up in the first place.

The manager may not have suffered an injury, but if he did, Lindsay could be charged with a hit and run (not to mention a probation violation).

For now, it looks like case closed, as no one has complained of an injury, however it could be reopened if the person struck presses charges.

Frankfurt to host MTV Europe Music Awards

The German city of Frankfurt will host this year's MTV Europe Music Awards.It will be the second time the ceremony has been broadcast from the city since 2001.

The event will be aired live from the city's historic Festhalle on Sunday 11 November.
Belfast in Northern Ireland staged the event in 2011 with performances from the likes of Justin Bieber, Coldplay and Lady Gaga, with Selena Gomez hosting the ceremony.

The Hunger Games cut to get 12A classification

The Hunger Games has been cut by its distributor in order to achieve a teen-friendly rating of 12A in the UK.


The film, set in a post-apocalyptic America where adolescents fight to the death on live TV, had been facing a 15 certificate.The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) said seven seconds of cuts included the digital removal of "blood splashes".

The movie is based on the first of a trilogy of novels by Suzanne Collins.The big screen adaptation stars Jennifer Lawrence, an Oscar nominee last year for Winter's Bone, in the lead role.
The cast also includes Woody Harrelson, Lenny Kravitz and Donald Sutherland.
The BBFC said the film's UK distributor Lions Gate UK "chose to make cuts in order to achieve a 12A classification".
"A number of cuts were made in one scene to reduce an emphasis on blood and injury," the BBFC report said.

Patrick Schwarzenegger Hospitalized After Ski Accident

Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger's 18-year-old son Patrick went to the hospital on a stretcher Saturday after a skiing accident in Sun Valley, Idaho.

Patrick was recovering and feeling well enough to postdetails on Twitter and photos on WhoSay and Instagram, including a picture of a nasty cut to his backside.

The claims are sure to stoke conspiracy theorists, especially since the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology that Burton refers to closed its doors on September 15, 2011, four months after bin Laden's death.

In another email, Burton said: 'If body dumped at sea, which I doubt, the touch is very Adolph Eichman like. The Tribe did the same thing with the Nazi's ashes'.
'Eichmann was seen alive for many months on trial before being sentenced to death and executed. No one wanted a monument to him so they cremated him.'

In a February 27 statement, Stratfor said: In December, thieves compromised Stratfor's data systems and stole a large number of company emails, along with other private information of Stratfor readers, subscribers and employees. Those stolen emails apparently will be published by Wikileaks. This is a deplorable, unfortunate - and illegal - breach of privacy.

They were also spotted with Selena’s co-star Ashley Benson in Tampa at Cracker Barrel, according to fan Shelly Mittal.


“My friend just saw @justinbieber, @seIanagomaz, and @AshBenzo at Cracker Barrel in TAMPA! So jealous!!!!!!!!!”, she wrote.


Finally, they were seen at the Vinoy Park Hotel in Saint Petersburg, where they appeared to be staying for the evening, Twitter user Karis McBride wrote.


“Just saw J Biebs and Selena pull up to The Vinoy, no big deal”, she wrote.

Bobbi, 19, spoke first, saying that she still feels her mother’s spirit around her.


“I can sing her music but to hear it right now — I can’t” she said. “I can hear her voice talking to me in spirit: ‘Keep moving baby, I got you.’ I can always hear her with me.’”


Furthermore, she says although it is hard to keep herself together after the death, she’s managing to do it day by day.


“I start crying and deal with it, but then I hear her voice again: ‘Keep moving’,” she said.


Patricia spoke next, saying that she thought drugs might eventually play a role in her death.


“The handwriting was on the wall,” she said. “I would be kidding myself otherwise. But things were really changing with her.”


Furthermore, she said Whitney was really focused on starting the foundation of a career for Bobbi Kristina.


“She loved Krissy with everything she had, and was trying to make things right with her,” she said.

Her brother Gary Houston also spoke, saying he was shocked to hear that Whitney’s life was taken so soon.


“I never thought anything like this would happen,” he said. “I never thought it would be like this, but it always crosses your mind that this can happen.”


He also spoke on behalf of his mother Cissy Houston, who declined to participate in the interview.


“I think she’s doing better now,” he said. “But she lost her only daughter. The gift came through her and it’s rough for her.”
